Govt fixes potato price at Tk 35 per kg
In the wake of spiral price hike of potato, the government has re-fixed the potato price at Taka 35 per kilogram at retail level.
“With the approval from the Ministry of Agriculture and as per the
Agricultural Marketing Act-2018, the potato price has been re-fixed at
Taka 35 per kg at the retail level”, said an official release.
The recommendations came in a view-exchange meeting held at the
Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) here this afternoon.
As per the recommendation under section 4(Jha), Taka 27 has been
fixed at the cold storage level and Taka 30 per kg fixed at wholesale
The department has also requested all the deputy commissioners to
monitoring the markets as the trios –the cold storage, wholesalers
and the retailers — will sell the potato in schedule price.
Chaired by DAM Director General Mohammad Yousuf, the meeting was
attended, among others, by the representatives of Commerce Ministry,
Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and the Directorate of National
Consumers’ Right Protection.
Bangladesh Cold Storage Association President and potato wholesalers
and Aratdars of Shyambazar also were participated in the meeting.
After potato price hike in the city markets, the DAM had fixed per
kg potato price at Taka 23 at Cold Storage level, wholesale price at
Taka 25 and retail price at Taka 30 on October 7.
